Lieutenant Colonel (LtCol) Aaron Maxwell, a native of Albuquerque, New Mexico, enlisted in the Marine Corps in 2001 as a field radio operator and was assigned to 1st Battalion, 14th Marines. In 2003, he transferred to 4th Reconnaissance Battalion, and in 2005 was attached to 3rd Battalion, 25th Marines as the Tactical Air Control Party Chief for deployment to Al Anbar, Iraq. Due to combat losses, he served as the Kilo Company Joint Terminal Air Controller.

Sergeant Major Garcia enlisted in the Marine Corps on 28 May 2001 and attended recruit training at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, South Carolina. Upon graduation from Recruit Training, Private Garcia reported to the School of Infantry, Camp Geiger, North Carolina, and earned the primary MOS of 0331 (Infantry Machine Gunner).

Colonel Herrmann graduated from the United States Naval academy in May 2000, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics and receiving his commission as a Second Lieutenant. Following graduation from The Basic School in January 2001, he underwent Naval Flight Officer training at NAS Pensacola, earning designation as a Naval Flight Officer in June 2002.
