Base leaders encourage service members, civilian employees and family members who work and live on Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, California, to register for the AtHoc emergency notification system. AtHoc enables base leaders to quickly notify users of emergency situations such as fires, floods or active shooters in a rapid manner, through various means of communication. The Marines and sailors aboard Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, California, recognize Earth Day, April 22, 2022. The theme for Earth Day this year is "Invest in Our Planet." Various environmental programs aboard the base have gone a long way toward preserving natural habitats and safeguarding wildlife while still providing effective training spaces for the 42,000 Marines and sailors stationed on the base. The Least Bell’s Vireo, a bird that spends its summers in Southern California and winters in Mexico, is one of 18 endangered species inhabiting this base. With the help of base personnel and the United States Geological Survey and their efforts to preserve and protect natural habitats, the population of the Least Bell’s Vireo has increased.
