Making the fire breaks
Marine Corps Base (MCB) Camp Pendleton personnel have been busy this year refreshing the over 160 miles of firebreaks at various locations throughout the base these fire breaks are designed to better manage fires on the installation by cutting off the spread of fires. Every year MCB Camp Pendleton encounters more than 100 fires that burn thousands of acres. Firebreaks created and maintained with bulldozers and road graders are essential to mitigating property damage and loss of life on and off base. (U.S. Marine Corps video by Cpl. Noah Rudash)

2017 Camp Pendleton Fire School
Federal and local firefighting agencies came together for an annual Fire School aboard Camp Pendleton, June 5 to June 9, 2017. The school is held to further enhance their abilities to effectively and efficiently combat wildfires. Significant wildland fires throughout San Diego County in October of 2007 lead officials to seek a partnership between military and civilian aviation and firefighting assets to better manage crisis aboard regional military installations and in the surrounding communities. Since then, Camp Pendleton security and safety agencies, and local departments have been working together to streamline response and integrated communication efforts to provide ready, trained and certified military and civilian resources to combat wildland fires in the region, culminating with a cooperative effort to extinguish wildland fires. Update on Roblar Fire on Camp Pendleton
A brush fire which began on Thursday afternoon at range 409A in the northeastern portion of the base has burned 800 acres aboard Camp Pendleton as of this evening. Working as part of a Unified Command, Camp Pendleton Fire Department and CALFIRE conducted aerial and ground firefighting operations at the northern end of base through the night with the fire currently contained at 35 percent. Since winds are blowing in a northerly direction, the fire is not posing threats to structures or personnel. Approximately 500 personnel in the unified command have used a variety of methods to fight the fire to include strike teams, dozers, aircraft and brush trucks.
