Camp Pendleton Fire Department and Cal Fire worked together to fight the Creek Fire that blazed in Fallbrook and the installation beginning Thursday, Dec. 24, 2020. Kyle Wetter, an infantry unit leader with Marine Crops Installations West, Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, rescues a baby from a burning vehicle on Mission Road in Fallbrook, California, Dec. 7, 2020. Wetter was going East-bound when he came across a burning vehicle, as Wetter approached the vehicle, he saw the father and mother attempting to get their baby out of the back of the car, the baby was in a car seat and trapped by the seat belt, that is when Wetter climbed in the back of the car and pulled a knife out and cut the seatbelt, safely rescuing the baby. Melissa Ugalde, a combat videographer with Marine Corps Installations West, Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, explains what it was like to receive her diagnosis of Stage 4 Hodgkins lymphoma, Dec. 17, 2020, from her home in Oceanside, California. Ugalde recently started chemotherapy treatment to combat her cancer, and decided to proactively shave her head during a video teleconference with her family and friends. U.S. Marines and sailors donate blood and are tested for coronavirus antibodies outside of the Center for Naval Aviation Technical Training Marine Detachment on Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, California, Aug. 10, 2020. The event was hosted by the Armed Services Blood Program. Each donor went through a screening process, then donated one pint of blood, which could save up to three lives. The Fisher House on Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, California, provides a “home away from home” for families of service members receiving serious and emergency medical care at Naval Hospital Camp Pendleton.
